Each of the ceramic cups of the reflejos collection embodies an action, one that speaks about who we are. For me, reading is that action. By reading you get to know poetry, stories, music, time; ultimately, the world. In Spanish you don’t tell time, you read it. The leer cup tries to capture the incessant movement of time and is inspired by the poem Vermeer by Wislawa Szymborska. Reflejos uses concrete poetry as a medium to explore and evoke the meaning of these actions graphically.

So long as that woman from the Rijksmuseum
in painted quiet and concentration
keeps pouring milk day after day
from the pitcher to the bowl,
the World hasn’t earned
the world’s end.

Wislawa Szymborska
